My Way or the Highway
There truly is no 'one right answer' in software development. A critique of rigid programming approaches.
I once encountered a database table with over 256 columns. The developer who created it was convinced it was the "right" way to do things. They weren't open to discussion.
Here's the thing: there truly is no "one right answer" in software development. Every solution has trade-offs, and what works in one context may be completely wrong in another.
When we approach problems with ego, we close ourselves off to better solutions. When we approach them with curiosity and collaboration, we often find approaches none of us would have thought of alone.
The best developers I've worked with:
- Listen more than they talk
- Ask questions before making assertions
- Are willing to change their mind
- Focus on the problem, not their solution
Leave your ego at the door. Your code will be better for it.
